LUMB019 BIRDS BUILD NESTS UNDERGROUND So As CD
So As is Birds Build Nests Underground’s first studio album after three years. It features four songs/compositions created exclusively with turntables and prepared vinyl records. The first of them, 'Sintordin,' is BBNU’s attempt to add something to the “jazz from hell” niche. And the idea of clashing marching bands... 'Ossifying Tongues' started, as the name implies, as a sonic description of the ossification of the mouth: the human voice material was slowly changing into white rhythmic and repetitive skeletons. However, over the years, the song has changed into a different kind of a monster and can be read as a comment on BBNU’s industrial/ambient past. 'Axe Loop' is a rock song – intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, instrumental break, chorus… somehow it is sixteen minutes long – after the band decided to leave out one verse. And finally there is 'Smoking Sun', a short interpretation of the band’s long-lost loop. New Romance meets clarinets on a nicely decorated dissecting table with some flowers in the pot. The fifth is a video track – a 10 minute part of BBNU’s performance from the autumn 2011, the day Freddie Mercury died. Martin Jezek shows his skills of 16mm improvisation here while Petr Ferenc and Michael Brunclík are locked in their favourite groove. The release arrives in a digipak and is limited. LUMB018 THEME with JEAN-HERVE PERON and ZSOLT SORES Poison Is (Not) The Word MLP
In early September 2011, Theme, the Poland/UK-based group centred around Lumberton Trading Company’s very own Richard Johnson (ex-Splintered, Husk, etc.) and Stuart Carter (ex-Splintered, The Fields Of Hay, ex-Heroin, etc.), went into a Budapest studio with their good friends Zsolt Sörés and Jean-herve Peron (a.ka. Art-Errorist of influential German group, Faust) for two days. Although some basic ideas had been worked on and discussed prior to this meeting, the main objective was to record a side-long piece of music that used one of these ideas as a starting point to what would otherwise essentially amount to a collaborative improvisation with Zsolt, plus further collaborative pieces for the other side of the record both involving also Jean-herve Peron and being completely of the moment.
The main piece, entitled ‘Poison Is (Not) The Word’, pays witness to Theme branching into territory probably closer to their work as Splintered (i.e., their Moraine LP from 1996, which featured Jim O’Rourke source material on one side). Stretching over 24 minutes in length, it remains anchored to Theme’s tendency for psychedelic drones and textures whilst Zsolt applies improvised electronics and viola to them and words are either chanted or spat out. A saxophone, added by Zsolt Varga, then completes the sprawling ‘brink-of-chaos’ feel perfectly.
On the other side are two pieces also spanning over 20 minutes between them. The first, ‘Baszd meg az apád!’ (which translates as ‘Fuck Your Father’ from Hungarian), begins misleadingly as a mass of atmospheric swirls, guitar, textures and sax until Jean-herve cuts in with some shouted vocals as effective as they are brief. The second, ‘Puszta Psycho’, is built around a tempered refrain of guitar string picking led by Jean-herve then welded to subtle touches of hissing electronics, space clatter, sax blasts (courtesy of Varga), subtle textural plumes, indiscernible knocking and scrunching sounds, Jean-herve’s vocals and buried chanting by Richard Johnson.
This MLP represents the first of two vinyl releases that document the time these artists all recorded and played live together over a period of 10 days. The second release will be a limited edition 7” on LTCo sister label, Fourth Dimension.
It is hoped another tour by Theme, Jhp-Art Errorist and Zsolt will take place in Spring 2013. In the meantime, this release will go into production in May 2012 and will be limited to 400 only. The first 100 MLPs also include a booklet. This can be pre-ordered now. £14.00

Originally due to appear in 2007, this release finally appeared in late October 2011 in an edition of 100 with a signed and numbered A4 print by Nick Mott. However, these all sold out within two months and are no longer available from us. As such, a second edition of 150 is going to appear in May 2012 along with a bonus professionally reproduced CDR featuring an extra 15 minutes of material never previously released. Comprising of several solo pieces by Nick Mott (ex-Volcano The Bear, Spectral Armies and Skeleton Birds And The Number Of God), this edition will receive a little more in the way of distribution but can also be pre-ordered directly from us. £4.00 plus postage

LTCo presents the debut release, Never Force A Left Handed Child To Use Their Right Hand, by solo artist Andrew Dewar Ainslie, a UK-based composer given to creating atmospheric music from textures, tones and gentle oscillations with a somewhat melancholic or reflective slant. Comprising three songs, ‘Manifesto’, ‘Wild Strawberries’ and the side long title track, this adds up to over 30 minutes of music plus features the late Jhonn Balance on the piece ‘Manifesto’, delivering a rarely heard reading of the Coil manifesto which was first broadcast on Holland’s VPRO station. The release typically hit some production problems but should finally appear in May 2011 and be strictly limited to 300 only. The first 50 copies included an additional insert and CDR exclusive to the subscribers and direct label mail order customers, while a small number of copies from the remaining 250 also randomly included some extras by Andrew. £11.00. The second album by this Thighpaulsandra and Coil affiliate, once more gushing splendidly with so many universe-scrunching ideas that it's difficult not to wonder what's floating around the air in his native Wales these days. From menacing near-ambience and the massive, punk 'n' Prog-bloated 'I'm in Blackout' to vocoded passages over the very same electronic insanity that's spewed out Stockhausen and Xenakis, there's much to wrestle with your mind's deepest and darkest corners here. Collaborators include Coil's Sleazy, Mike Edwards (Jesus Jones' singer), Frank Naughton (Rocketgoldstar and ex-Uziq) Gaz Williams (Rocketgoldstar), The Grangetown String Ensemble, The Chung Chinese Ensemble and many others. Joint-released with Poland's AudioTong and capturing the legendary German group's debut in Poland, on 15 November 2006. Professionally recorded, this album captures the band on absolutely perfect form and illustrating very clearly that they enjoyed the performance as much as the audience. Improvised workouts of some of their classics combine with material now to be found on their current studio album. Possibly one of their best live releases, if we say so ourselves. Astonishing album representing this often spaceward-bound UK electronica duo's debut non-self released work. Mulched digital flotsam, chattering rhythms, vapour trails and suchlike combine to create a vast and sprawling, kaleidoscopic filmic spew that's unstoppable in its reaching out to those parts of yr imagination simply waiting to be taken to new places. At times, the music recalls early Tangerine Dream or even Pete Namlook's darker descents taking a trip to those realms usually reserved for Autechre via the ritualistic and chemical saturation of Coil, but these boys have been honing their craft long enough to bleed so many exciting and interesting shapes into it that it has become ultimately their own. A special limited edition collection of songs mostly culled from and only otherwise available via Michael Gira's website-only CD releases, 'Solo Recordings at Home' and 'I Am Singing to You from My Room'. Also includes three recordings only, so far, available on this release. Raw, naked, and highly emotive outpourings of transcendental bliss from one of the most gifted songwriters of the past couple of decades or more. As described by the man himself: "I recorded these songs alone, at my desk, in most cases just as I was writing them - me and an acoustic guitar and one stereo microphone. I've often found that the true 'feel' of a song exists then, right at the point it's first pulled together, stronger than at any later point." When asked to describe Thighpaulsandra's work to somebody once, it was difficult to find the right words to serve any justice. Perhaps the best thing to therefore do is simply respond by illustrating this highly accomplished and visionary musician has been known for his assistance with groups and artists as diverse as Coil, Spiritualized and Julian Cope as much as his own albums during recent enough memory. The album he has recorded for LTCo, Chamber Music , certainly compounds matters, too. Combining musique concrete, quasi-dimensional electronics, ravaged hums, atmospheric tones and all manner of different instruments nodding into focus, it represents some of his most cohesive work. To simply declare it the result of an active imagination would still fall far short of giving it enough credit. Active imaginations have, after all, been known to deliver much less than a solitary Thighpaulsandra track. Released late 2005. £9.00
